Questions
Why squirrels?
They’ve always intrigued me. Curious, clever, energetic and adventurous. And they’re cute, too! Squirrels are always alert. They’re the perfect choice to be featured in this book, and Tarragon Green is their home.
Why carrots?
Like many of us, I grew up thinking rabbits ate carrots every day. I was wrong. Carrots are colorful, sweet and delicious. They deserve to be a fun and favorite food for an entirely different species. Start munching!
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Matthew R. Gomez
Matthew R. Gomez is the name I use around grown-ups. My friends call me Matt.
I was born in Brooklyn, raised in New Jersey, and college educated at Temple University in Philadelphia where I majored in Journalism. My entire professional career in communications has been in Florida, and that’s where the concept of Tarragon Green took shape.
Though I have long wished to write and publish children’s books (I’m a big fan of Dr. Seuss), the genesis of this first book occurred as I was working as a children’s radio broadcaster. With so many silly stories swimming in my head, and by engaging with children calling the radio station each day, it was easy to lose myself in imagination and rhyme. Daydreaming was, and still is, the norm. You’ll read the results of that productive daydreaming as we share our first book together.
When I’m not writing children’s books and poetry, you’ll find me watching baseball (Let’s go, Mets!) or fishing. I also work as a corporate communications consultant for several well-known companies in a variety of industries.
I’m the proud father of two teenagers who have undoubtedly shaped the characters in my stories.
